Director of Common Sense

Sometimes, it seems that this position may be the most demanding across the entire Athletic Department.

Director of Common Sense.

Now, we know that coaches are a focused bunch. It's a demanding job where everyone sees every win and every loss. I get it.

But sometimes, you just need a Director of Common Sense.

"Let's host a game on Christmas... the NBA does it."
"Sure, this is his fourth school in three years, but we can get him eligible."
"We have to charter everywhere."
"I know there is a hiring freeze, but if we don't get this we're going to lose out on recruits."

In any other facet of life, these are reasonable humans. They can function in society - well, in fact.

But within the Athletic Department, sometimes you need a Director of Common Sense.

"There is no way we can host that game on Christmas, Coach. Or any other national holidays, for that matter."
"The local YMCA couldn't get that kid eligible."
"Yes, I like charter planes too, but not for a 90-minute drive."
"If the lack of a causes us to lose out on a GAMECHANGER, then he might not be the right kid for us."

Director of Common Sense.

Someone has to do it.
